John H Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 When a character has both the pinned and strained conditions and attempts to move, (eg. By either action or tactic ability) the pinned condition is removed instead of moving. Does this also trigger the Strained condition?
Thoras Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 How the character attempts to move is important. If they attempt to move as a result of a special rule from another character that grants them an advance, dash, climb or jump, strain will not resolve as the pinned doesn't just prevent them from physically moving, it means the move didn't occur at all. It also means the potential trigger of the ability was performed by the other character. If they attempt to move as a result of an active ability, reactive ability or from a move action, strain will not be triggered by the movement portion of those rules resolving(since the movement doesn't occur), but it will be triggered by them having performed the active ability, reactive ability or the move action.

What about Tactic or Innate abilities? Say Rex uses the Tactic Get a move on soldier. If he uses it on another unit that is pinned/strained does the strain trigger? If he uses it on himself and he's pinned and strained does it trigger? What if Luminara uses her Innate ability Flow of the Force to dash. If she uses it on another strained/pinned unit does it trigger? If she uses it on herself (strained/pinned) does it trigger?

The use of Tactic or Innate abilities are not a condition for triggering Strained by themselves and the dash doesn't occur due to the pinned condition, therefore nothing is triggering Strained in these examples
