Can saber throw be used like a versatile ranged weapon?

Rules for engaged are:

When two or more trooper units are in melee with one another, those units are engaged. Only trooper units can be engaged.
An engaged unit cannot perform moves, form attack pools containing ranged weapons, and cannot be targeted by attack pools containing ranged weapons.

Since lightsabers are a melee weapon they are eligible to be used while engaged even if using a ranged attack?

It may not.

When utilising the Saber Throw upgrade card to make an attack, treat the chosen melee weapon as a ranged weapon.
