Using Active Abilities During Attacks

On page 10 of the rulebook, it says that Active abilities can be used at any time during a Unit's activation. Does this mean that I can pay the force cost to use an active ability like Kalani's Tactical Network in the middle of an attack? (not as a free activation from the combat tree)

Example: Kalani attacks Barriss Offee. I see that Barriss is going to have a reposition from her expertise tree. Could I pay 1 force to immediately activate the tactical network ability in the middle of the attack to prevent her from moving out of range before I use the ability?

No. 

The Snip-et on page 11 clarifies this. Abilities that can be used “at any time” cannot be used while another ability or effect is resolving. 

In the scenario you describe, Barriss’s Reposition from her defensive expertise chart will resolve in step 10B of the attack timing chart. 

If Kalani gets 3 successes to trigger the Active ability, that will resolve during step 10C as per the rules on page 32.
