Makashi Mastery vs Immune: Melee Pierce

If an attacker uses "Makashi Mastery" and reduces the pierce value of a weapon in the attack pool, can a defender still use "Immune: Melee Pierce"?

Hi there,

The Makashi Mastery keyword, when used, will prevent the defender from using Immune: Melee Pierce as well as Immune: Pierce & Impervious.
