takras Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 Quote Withdraw: An engaged unit may withdraw during its activation to leave melee. To withdraw, a unit must make a move action. Reduce the units speed to 1 during this move action. A unit with a maximum speed of 0 cannot withdraw. A unit cannot move into melee during an activation that it withdraws. A unit cannot perform a standby action or an attack and withdraw during the same activation. Quote Disengage: While a trooper unit with the Disengage keyword is engaged with a single enemy unit, it can still perform moves as normal. I'm a bit confused about these two keywords. Withdraw states that one may withdraw, and use a move action and reduce its speed to withdraw. But Disengage says just move as normal and does not mention Withdraw, so it seems if a unit with Disengage does a Move, it does not fall under the Withdraw rule that they are allowed to attack after Disengaging?
Seth Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 Hi there, For clarity, Withdraw is not a keyword; it is a game effect Engaged Trooper units may apply to make a Move to leave Melee. They cannot make Moves under any other circumstances while Engaged. Disengage is a unit keyword. If a unit uses Disengage, it does not have to Withdraw to Move (provided, of course, it meets the criteria to use Disengage at all and is not Engaged with 2 or more enemy units). As it is not Withdrawing, it is not restricted by the limitations set by the Withdraw entry: it may move at its natural speed, it may move into Melee, and it may perform an attack or Standby action. ------------------------------------------- On 8/23/2024 at 2:58 AM, takras said: so it seems if a unit with Disengage does a Move, it does not fall under the Withdraw rule that they are allowed to attack after Disengaging? Correct. If a unit uses its Disengage keyword, it is not performing a Withdraw and is not restricted by the Withdraw entry in any capacity. Hope this helps, Seth
