This seems to be a distinction from when a miniature is defeated that was added from an upgrade card. Thanks!

No. A unit's upgrade bar is used while building an army to determine which Upgrade Cards a unit may equip. If an Upgrade Card is discarded during the game, the unit does not "lose" any of its other equipped Upgrade Cards, even if they are only equipped as a result of the discarded Upgrade Card.
