Climbing Vehicles' orientation to terrain

Recommended Posts

I cannot find any threads or rules that state how the notched base of the climbing vehicles need be orientated to the terrain they are climbing. I am confident in making the assumption, that at the very least, the front facing arc of the unit must be touching the terrain. This came into play big in a game I just recently played.

Which of the following is correct / legal?

A. Vehicle is directly perpendicular to the terrain?

B. Vehicle pointed at 25° climbs ledge, then is rotated perpendicular as if they faced the terrain to climb up.

C. Vehicle pointed at 25° climbs ledge and maintains the 25° orientation, but as if they climbed straight up the terrain at the point they were touching.

D. Vehicle pointed at 25° climbs ledge and maintains the 25° orientation, but as if they maintained their orientation through the entire climb.

E. Not depicted, but any scenarios where the side arc or rear arc are touching the terrain. Can you reverse up and climb backwards for example?

I think A. is a no brainer, but not sure about the rest.

Hey there,

A and C are correct. Climb and Clamber in the RRG specifies that a vehicle must keep it orientation during vertical movement. B and D are both incorrect - B due to the orientation change, and D because you’re not climbing up to the nearest spot where you started the vertical move.
