"After the unit performs any movement, that unit’s controlling player may pick up any claimed objective tokens and place them in base contact with the unit leader."
I find the wording "may" a bit strange here. It seems to imply that when a unit which has a claimed objective token performs a move, it is optional to move the objective token with it. In other words, that you could choose to leave the claimed objective token in place, effectively running away from it, while it remains claimed. Is this how the rule should be interpreted?

In the rule book, under "claim" (p. 39) it says:
"After the unit performs any
movement, that unit’s controlling player may pick up any
claimed objective tokens and place them in base contact with
the unit leader."
