"Allied Unit" and multi-base units

As an example - B1 Droids "Combat A.I. Protocols" - it says "After an allied Battle Droid unit" - does each base count as one unit or do both the bases count as one unit.  the phrasing on the clone troopers cards ability specifically states "another allied unit"

In the same vein, does a unit count as an allied unit to itself, again the clone trooper phrasing says "another allied unit" whilst other phrasing on other cards just says "an allied unit"

A Unit consists of one or more characters. Each character consists of one or more miniatures on a single base. 

Units are allied to themselves.
