Do you have to have taken a Focus action in order to trigger Sharpshooter?

For example Gar Saxon moves, isnt in range to benefit from Mandos stronger together, so doesn't get the free focus. Can he still benefit from +2 dice from Sharpshooter 2 if he takes a shot?

Sharpshooter rules are on page 39. 

Quote

Sharpshooter [X]: When this character makes a focus action it adds X additional dice to its next Ranged attack in addition to the 1 attack die added by the focus action.

A focus action is required to gain the extra dice from Sharpshooter.
