First Player battlefield side choice timing

Does the First Player choose their battlefield side before or after the terrain is set up?

From the sequence in the rulebook, it seems this happens before the terrain setup, which makes the choice pretty much irrelevant.

This will depend on whether or not you are following the Showdown or Premier Showdown rules.

In the Showdown or Premier Showdown rules, players do not set up the battlefield themselves. They would choose sides, then setup the mission on the battlefield present at their table.
