Can I use a range tool to measure the space around them, to understand what positions will be inside or outside of a given range, provided I do not have the R3 tool for deployment in the map. Specifically, I deploy Cable. I wish to deploy Logan so he will be outside of R3 after his first move. Can I measure R3 from Cable to understand how far he is from a given objective, then remove the tool, place the R3 and deploy Logan? Alternatively, I have deployed Shuri and wish to play Advanced R&D/Spirit of Wakanda Turn 1. Can deploy Beta Ray Bill base to base with Shuri, then measure R2 from Shuri before deploying my next model to understand if the other side of Bill's base is within R2?

Keep in mind that you cannot then move that character based on what you have measured though. Measuring in that fashion with a character that wasn't yet deployed would be breaking two rules, the first being the use of two of the same type of measuring tool at once (The Range 3 for the deployment and the Range X for your secondary measurement). Second, you'd have been using a "proxy base" which is a type of measuring device not provided by AMG and thus not eligible for use.
