Contesting vs Controlling Objectives

Apologies if this is an obvious question, but can I contest an objective without controlling that objective, for the purposes of being targeted by rules such as Cody’s We’ve Got a Big Problem, just by virtue of the fact I’ve been shoved or something within range?

Yes. A character is contesting an active objective if it is within range 2 of that objective and their unit is not wounded. Even if you are not controlling that objective, your characters are still contesting it.
