Critical effects and Ignition Attacks

Can I resolve a black critical effect, such as one from Assault Proton Torpedos, if I'm outside close range during an Ignition Attack? For example, I have an Ignition Attack from a S-PHAT, outside the natural close range, but still in the "close range" where I can add a black die due to the range's extension.

Resolving critical effects is not dependent on what range the attack is conducted at unless otherwise specified.
