Coordinate fire - Multiple strains

When I do a coordinate fire with clones, if they add a strain with the coordinate and there are strains in the attack tree, do they get multiple strains (second + being 1 dmg)? Also, do I have to have damage go through to apply the strain?

They would gain the Strained from the coordinated fire before you start choosing Combat Tree Options.

If the Combat Tree Options have Strained in them, the unit will suffer 1 damage instead of the Strain as you cannot have multiple of the same condition.
