Who gets momentum for Wounded character

Hi,

English is not my native language, normally I can read rules easily, but this one puzzles me:

• When a Unit becomes Wounded, the opposing player gains a Momentum token.

 

Who does get momentum:

• my view was that it is being reward for wounding unit - so momentum gets to opposing player of unit owner
• my friends see it as catch up mechanic so it goes to owner of wounded unit
