MagnaGuard Bodyguard ability

Does the cover(1) granted by the bodyguard ability from MangaGuards supersedes the core rule when defending a melee attack and add 1 defense die to their roll … similar to how Obi-Wan Knowledge and Defense allows allied units to keep hunker tokens when in melee.

No. Cover does not apply to melee attacks. Bodyguard does not change this rule.
