I'm trying to reconcile this with an answer I recently got about Shoves. The answer there was that neither character has to move (Push or Pull) with the Shove, but that if neither one moved, the Shove still happened and would trigger effects based on Shoves happening. In the answer here, there was no move from the Jump, and thus the Jump didn't happen, meaning effects triggering off the Jump would not happen. I'm confused. Would you please help me understand the difference? -

Ah. I knew I'd seen something somewhere. Thanks, but unfortunately it's not clicking with me. "Or, perhaps, Shove is a βmustβ that consists of a βmayβ Push and a βmayβ Pull?) This is correct, yes." If you "must" do the Shove, but "may" do either or both of the Push and Pull, couldn't you just say "I am required to do the Shove before going to the next option, but within that Shove, I chose to do neither part" thus making it actually completely optional? Or to put it more clearly (for me anyway), can I move up the next option if I don't do at least one of the two parts of the Shove? At least either Push or Pull, but if I don't do at least one of the two, I cannot go to the next option? -
Let's say you have three successes in a combat tree. Option one is one damage and a Shove. Option two is two damage and a Shove. Option three is two damage. Can you apply all the damage from all three options, but do neither of the Shoves?

I've seen lots of people place, for example, an Advance tool at a character's base, then place a Range 2 tool next to an objective, leaving a gap on the table between to the two tools - a gap they the naked eye thinks is small enough for the base of the model to cover once the character would be put there. The thing is, it's not certain. The player can't check this gap's size using the base of the character (or any other base for that matter), correct?

To add to that, it would be against the rules to use a base to measure as well, correct? -
On page 24 of the Core Rules, the final bullet under Push or Pull reads: "If an object cannot physically fit or balance on top of a terrain part or feature, the object cannot be Placed there." This is not reiterated under the other types of movement, just Push or Pull. 1. Does this mean that it is acceptable to use 'stand in' empty bases (or other substitute, including just agreeing with an opponent that the model is "actually" on a spot where it cannot balance or fit) when, for example, advancing a model onto a precarious bit of terrain? 2. Assuming that the answer to the first question is "no," is it then an intentional limit on General Grievous that his cape and arms/lightsabers restrict where he can go on the table when compared to other models on the same size base (and perhaps therefore being a part of his game balance design)? We play most of our games using standard AMG Shatterpoint terrain kits, and even simple layouts create areas where any other model on his base size can fit, but his arms and cape make him being positioned in those spots impossible. Basically, we are wondering if it is intentional that his physical design limits where he can go or if players are meant to create a solution for positioning models like him. Thank you.

So then I really am confused. I swear I read in the book that Personal Effects are resolved last, after Direct Effects, and Direct Effects are all resolved after the damage pool has been applied, but I can't find that now. I guess I'm just crazy. Thanks for the info. -
I just saw this question and answer: "On the first step we have repositioning, and if we use it can we continue using shove on other spots in the damage track, even if we are out of engagement after repositioning? Yes." I'm confused (and maybe playing the game incorrectly). Wouldn't the shove(s) be resolved before the reposition even takes place?

A Mando advances toward an ingress point. At the other end of the ingress (ladder) is another Mando. I understand that the first Mando has ended his advance, which allows him to use the ingress, but does that mean the Movement action has ended? If not, it can pop up to the other end of the ingress and benefit from Stronger Together. If so, it can't. It seems like there is a difference between ending a move (advance in this case) and ending a move action. When is the actual action completed?

If an ability or effect does more than one thing, but does not contain a "then" condition in the wording, can you do the things after the first thing. For example, Run on Obi-wan Kenobi, Out of Hiding says "The chosen character may heal and reposition." We saw another rules answer that added me language to the rules indicating that effects must be resolved in the order written. That's not the question here. The question is if you have to be able to do the first thing to be eligible to do the second when no "then" is present.

Can you? For example, Obi-wan Kenobi, Out of Hiding is activated. He is not damaged and has no conditions on him. Can he still use the Heal? The question came up because my opponent believes that in order to reposition, Obi must also heal, and if he's unable to remove damage or a condition, she thinks it would prevent the reposition. (I'll make another post to clarify if that even matters.)

Seems obvious, but you can't trigger Patience from the Shatterpoint card, right? Obi-Wan's card isn't being "revealed". Yeah?

We had a heck of a situation last night and wanted to be sure we got it right. Lord Maul has Strained, Exposed, and Disarmed on him. A unit of B1 Battledroids attacks him in melee. The first attack Wounds Maul, triggering his Revenge. This means his Exposed goes away after the attack (because he got attacked), and the Disarmed also goes away because Revenge is his next attack, which is what Disarmed affects. Now, since both Droids are within Range 4, Maul gets another Exposed. The second B1 attacks, removing the new Exposed on Maul after the B1 attack, but then another Exposed is added to Maul, just as the 1st one did due to Combat A.I.. Also, the Strained went away after the Revenge attack, but since Maul was wounded, he did not take the 3 Damage from Strained. So, because the 1st B1 Wounded Maul, Maul mostly ignores his conditions since he will only end with a single condition (an Exposed) and that will be removed when he activates and goes from Wounded to Injured. Did we get this right?

Your help and expertise here is always appreciated. Could you help me understand the distinction with regard to feature vs. part? Page 24, under Push or Pull, first point: "If an object would contact another object or terrain part at the same or higher Elevation than the Pushed or Pulled object, the movement ends immediately." Doesn't that mean that a pushed model leaving the gantry and trying to enter the next part (like the little attached building) would stop? What am I failing to understand? Thanks! -
Darkstar Darkforce Strike Rerolls

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm a bit confused/struggling to understand the reasoning for the answer (not doubting - after all, you guys are the designers, so you are correct, obviously). To me, this feels very much like a can/can't situation. At the very least, I'm missing out on the section of the rules that explain the "all" distinction in general. The attack indicates you *can* reroll all the dice, not some. Failures *can't* be rerolled (baring something like Eye of Agamotto). Can't beats can, per the main rules. So, the attack says you can (but no exception granted for failures), but Failures say you can't. Thus a roll that includes Failures - and includes the "all" wording - seems like it should prevent Darkestar from being able to use the rule. Don't you have to meet all the qualifications for rule in order to use it? Gah! Confusing. Again, not doubting. Just trying to understand the reasoning so I can try to come to correct answers on my own in the future. Can you provide a bit of detail as to where/how the basic rules of the game would allow "all" dice to not actually be "all" dice? Thanks again! -
1. A Failure cannot be rerolled without explicit permission to do so. 2. Some Powers and Attacks allow rerolls of "any" dice, so you can pick and choose, keep your successes, and reroll non-Failure misses. 3. Some Powers and Attacks allow rerolls of "all" dice, so you can reroll dice, but must reroll all of them. Doctor Strange's Eye of Agamotto is an example of this. It also happens to specifiy that Failures can be rerolled. Darkstar's Darkforce Strike allow for rerolls of "all" the attack dice. It does not specify that Failures may be rerolled. This means that if her attack roll includes any Failures, she may not reroll as her Strike specifies "all" dice and if the roll has any Failures, this would be against one rule or the other (all dice must be rerolled/can't reroll Failures). Have I got that right?
